Oman’s astronomical summer has officially ended, and the country is currently transitioning into a brief autumn period before the winter season begins in October or November.The autumn equinox occurred today (September 23, 2026), marking the end of the harsh summer heat and the wind-down of the monsoon (Khareef) season in Dhofar. Here is what you can expect as the seasons shift over the coming months.

The Seasonal Timeline

• Autumn Transition (Late September to October): The scorching summer temperatures (which regularly exceed 40°C) are dropping. October serves as a bridge month where the weather becomes noticeably more bearable, with average temperatures settling between 25°C and 35°C.

• Winter Season (November to March): This is considered the peak tourism season in Oman. Daytime temperatures average a highly comfortable 25°C to 27°C, humidity levels drop, and the evenings become pleasantly cool (and even cold or frosty up in mountain peaks like Jabal Shams).

• Note for late 2026: According to the Oman Directorate General of Meteorology, this upcoming winter season (October 2026 through May 2027) is expected to be wetter and more fertile than usual due to active El Niño climate patterns.
